01.31.08 | No FAFSA Renewal?
Source: FAFSA blog
If you are a current student looking for the 2008-2009 renewal FAFSA, be warned: there isn’t one anywhere on the FAFSA site or in the initial application. Thankfully, Carla Berg of Bentley College mentioned that the FAFSA renewal option was gone. Apparently, when you go to file a FAFSA as a returning student, the application pre-populates with last year’s data, but that’s not obvious anywhere on the site.

I renewed my fafsa online per an e-mail that I received. It worked out just fine.

So I have been told when I called FAFSA…no renewals…so what does that mean when you file online? Is your old info still there? Do you just adjust the numbers as in the past? This is so unreal…just make things worse for us parents…and students….thanks for your info. E.Linder

Dawn - you just go and file a new one, and your older data will be there.

I am 53yo male widower with one 18yo son still living w/me and in school full time. (He is a HS Sr today, and enrolling in Jr/Small College or 2yr Technical School for Summer 08/Fall08 and Spring 09. Two or three questions and seeking ideas and/or networking info.
I do not receive a taxable income, although I do owe for some unpaid taxes. When I started back to school, a default appeared on my records from 1973, and I had no income at all at that point. I got the release for the Default, and made satisfactory explanation for how I covered cost of living. I received approximately $ 5400 for 07-08, and 08-09, but each time they require an audit and the primary school of enrollment seems not to understand that this audit process is expedite revenues to be received by me.
When will they quit auditing my, and how do I go about locating funding/grant opportunities for my disabilities: a) Prostate Cancer patient; b) Kidney cancer; c)Chronic Pain and chemical dependency; d) Chronic Depression/Anxiety Disorder; e) Viet Nam era honorably discharged veteran; f) Registered on the Cherokee Nation certified blood ancestor within the Deleware Tribe (incl. in Cherokee rolls);
With my current school, Oklahoma State University - Oklahoma City, I have had not so good support from Financial Aid, and no direct input, support, and encouragement regarding expediting of basic financial support as well as other sources of funds for persons with special circumstances. I am not allowed to earn an income until I receive at least my Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology-Substance Abuse Counselor. If I do earn any income I will lose my VA NSC Disability Pension of 1,100 month. It had been 1495 monthly until my son’s 18th birthday, and now it is reduced to 1100. I can not even do work study because they reduce one dollar of pension for every one dollar earned income. So in order to recover the full amount of my non taxable pension, I would have to receive at least 1600 dollars before taxes just to break even. This is the reason that I have been pursuing school full time.
I look forward to any input on how and/or suggestions-encouragement on where to pursue additional grant or scholarship funding. Right now I have borrowed over 10000 in student loans, but the burden of payback is going to have much more negative impact on me starting career at 55 than in my youth. Sincerely, Charles

Just start filling as if it’s a new application and it after you enter your ss, last name, and make a new password it will offer to auto-fill based on your previous information.
I freaked out at first too thinking I might need to go through it all again - thanks everyone!
