Who is eligible to receive Federal aid? This includes federal grants (money that does not have to be repaid and federal loans (money that is repaid).
- US citizens and eligible non-citizens (permanent resident, asylum, etc.) are eligible to receive federal financial aid.
- International students typically are not eligible.
- Students who are legal citizens/eligible non-citizens but whose parents are
illegal immigrants may qualify for financial aid, but will likely need the assistance of a
financial aid officer.

The 2009-2010 fafsa will be available for completion on the federal website beginning January 1, 2009. The current FAFSA on the http://www.fafsa.ed.gov website is for the 2008-2009 academic year only.

It depends on the graduate school. A select few schools are Title IV certified, which means they’re recognized by the US government and US financial aid can be applied there. Some other foreign schools also have tuition agreements with US universities, where you pay your bills at a US school but attend overseas. Check with the school you’re thinking about attending for more information.
