Is the FAFSA free?
The FAFSA form is free to file for any and all students. Students generally should not ever pay to file the FAFSA, though some students, parents, and families may wish to engage the services of certified financial planners, CFAs, and other financial professionals to help them with the tax preparation work needed for successful completion of the financial aid form.
If you are considering engaging outside services for completing the FAFSA, be sure to carefully check and investigate the reputation of the companies you are dealing with, and be aware of the many free alternatives for FAFSA help, including the College Goal Sunday events, free or nominal fee financial planners at community banks and credit unions, and FAFSA help at local community centers.
